There is no lack for great food, produce and coffee in the New Farm peninsula, however Sourced Grocer proves that there is always place for one new great foodie joint. Build it and they shall come as they certainly do here.
My weekend isn’t complete without a trip to Sourced Grocer. Most of the food is sourced locally (hence the name), ensuring that it is not only fresh but helps to build an even stronger community in the area.
Their menu covers breakfast, lunch and in between snacks. This includes croissants from Chouquette & bread from Leavain, along with yummy condiments, hams, cheeses, fruit and salads. I was feeling slightly delicate last sunday but the ‘Croque monsieur’ (pictured) and two coffees sorted that out pretty quickly. Try the fruit toast with blood orange, blueberry jam and sweet ricotta - you won’t be disappointed.
The coffee is exceptional and really so are the baristas and the staff in general who are never too busy to have a pleasant attitude and offer you a joke or a smile.
The cafe is in an actual grocer which is a danger to any pocket, wallet or purse. Walking out without a purchase is quite rare as they offer one off products, organics and good looking fresh fruit & veggies. Try the bacon - you will never look at bacon in the same way again!
The whole grocer/cafe has limited seating which increases the demand for a spot. Which is why you will always see people sitting outside in the driveway or on the window sill. Any place goes at Sourced Grocer, just grab a crate and make yourself comfortable - you won’t want to leave!
